We do not know who you are, and we have not tried to find out. There is no account, no email field and no phone field anywhere on this site. Nothing you type is sold, shared with a contractor, or used to advertise to you later.
Two things are worth knowing in detail, and they are below: what happens to an address you type, and what our web server records like every web server does.
What happens to your address
When address lookup goes live, typing an address will do exactly two things.
First, the address goes to our server, which passes it to the US Census Bureau geocoder to turn it into map coordinates. That step happens on our server only because the Census service cannot be called directly from a browser, not because we want a copy. The Census Bureau, a US government agency, does receive the address as part of this. That is unavoidable if you want a building located from a street address, and you should know it rather than assume otherwise.
Second, the coordinates are matched against a public dataset of US building outlines to find your building's footprint. That lookup uses coordinates, not your address.
We do not write the address to a log or a database. We do not keep it after the request finishes. There is nothing to export, because there is nothing stored.
If you would rather not send an address at all, the calculator works entirely without one. Enter your footprint and pitch and nothing leaves your browser.
What runs in your browser
All of the pricing arithmetic. Every figure you see is calculated on your own device from the rates published on the methodology page. None of your inputs are transmitted to work out a price.
No cookies, and no third parties
This site sets no cookies. It stores nothing in your browser. It runs no analytics, no advertising, no tracking pixels, and no third-party scripts of any kind.
It also loads no third-party fonts. The typeface is served from this site, so opening a page here does not make your browser contact Google or anyone else. That is the usual quiet exception on sites making the claim this page makes.
Links to our sources on the methodology page are ordinary links. If you click one you are on that publisher's site, under their policy, not ours. We earn nothing from those links.
What the server records
Like every web server, ours records that a request happened: an IP address, a timestamp, which page, and what browser asked. This is what makes it possible to serve the site and to notice when something is being attacked or scraped.
These logs are not linked to anything you type. They are not used to build a profile, they are not sold, and they are not shared with advertisers, because there are no advertisers.
Children
This is a tool for pricing building work. It is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect anything from them.
Your rights
There is no account to delete and no file to request, because nothing you type is kept. The one exception is the server log described above: an IP address counts as personal data under both the GDPR and the CCPA, and ours are in there like every other site's. They are retained only as long as the host keeps them, are never joined to anything you enter, and are never used to build a profile.
If you believe otherwise, or you want to know anything not covered here, write to hello@roofcostbyaddress.com and you will get a real answer from a person.
If this page changes
The date below changes with it. If we ever start doing something this page says we do not do, that will be written here before it happens, not after.
